| Project TWIST | Year 2026 |
TWIST is a series of handwoven rugs inspired by traditional weaving techniques from Rajasthan, India. During our visit to a Rajasthani weaving community, we discovered the rare ply-split technique and became fascinated by the distinctive texture of handspun yarn. The rugs are handcrafted with an alternative approach to the traditional technique allowing the twisted yarns to create a playful and subtle sense of movement within each piece. They stand out for their open, airy and lively character, seemingly following a rhythm of their own. We worked with the naturally coloured wool of the Dutch Spotted Sheep, known for its multicoloured fleece. Carefully selected and combined, these colours form the basis of the twisted yarns. The irregular character of the hand-spun yarns give each rug a unique appearance, with the construction process highlighting their expressive qualities. The flexible connections are secured in place, drawing on one of wool’s most valuable qualities: its ability to felt into a solid structure. The project brings together tradition and innovation while using of a valuable local material: Dutch wool. |

The loops and fringes on the edges accentuate the rugs' lively character.
The natural colours and handspun yarns make every rug unique.
Open, playful structures lend the rug a sense of lightness.
