JAS&CAL work with leftover and deadstock fabrics in striped or checkered patterns, from which threads are manually removed from the original weave. By unraveling, they slowly reverse the making process, creating new patterns that either follow or disrupt the existing lines. This act of making by unmaking gives industrial textiles a new form and meaning. Whereas these interventions usually serve as suggestions within their design process, here they become the final outcome. These fabrics are shaped by the idea of wasting nothing. |
